Belly dance pants...

...tribal, harem

The harem pants, or belly dance pants, are one of the typical belly dance costume styles.

They are made by cutting very wide leg panels out of a chiffon, georgette or something heavier and opaque if you prefer. These are then gathered or pleated onto an elastic strip or a wide patterned trim that fits snugly around each ankle.

The top of the belly dance pants is like-wise pleated or gathered onto an elastic or wide embroided waistband. The seam that runs up the outside of the leg is sometimes left open, or a slit deliberately cut along this line, so as to reveal the leg.

Other pants that are sometimes used are cotton lycra flare pants, worn under a panel skirt or tassel belt, as we see worn by some tribal fusion dancers.
